The Object
The Pulkovo Observatory is a scientific center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Since 1839 scientists have explored stars and black holes here, they also have observed planets, comets, and asteroids. The observatory is located in the south of St. Petersburg, on the Pulkovo heights.
Пулковская обсерватория — научный центр Российской Академии Наук. Уже 180 лет здесь исследуют звезды и черные дыры, наблюдают за планетами, кометами, и астероидами. Обсерватория находится на юге Санкт-Петербурга, на Пулковских высотах. Открытие состоялось 19 августа 1839 г. Сейчас ей присвоен статус ценного объект культурного наследия России. Научная работа ведется и по сей день.
Mission
The identity was designed to reflect two points: the observatory as a science senter and as place for leisure of urban residents.
Pulkovo astronomical observations are important not only for Russian science, but for the whole world. However, the doors of the observatory are open to all who are interested in astronomy. Not many people know that the observatory conducts excursions for visitors, lectures on scientific topics, scientific festivals.
Немногие знают, но в обсерватории проводят экскурсии, лекции, фестивали. При создании фирменного стиля было важно подчеркнуть, что обсерватория — не закрытый научный центр, а еще и площадка для городского досуга.
Создание собственной айдентики призвано вызвать интерес, повысить приток посетителей и сделать обсерваторию популярным городским объектом.

The basis of design — icons, diagrams, schemas and illustrations. Those symbols are easily understood by people. It could be successfully used in printed products and in navigation elements. Also, few patterns are used, their basis is starry sky.
Дизайн включает в себя: иконки, паттерны, иллюстрации и схемы. Фирменные цвета — голубой, фиолетовый и бежевый. Цветы выбраны из-за прямых ассоциаций с небом, космосом, дальними галактиками, светом звезд. Основа паттернов — звездное небо.
